Buckle up

Wearing a safety belt can spell the difference
between life and death, in the event of a crash

Drivers are responsible for the safety of their passengers. Any carelessness or lapse in concentration can cause death or seriuos injury to passengers. As a driver, you have the right to insist that your front and back passengers use their seat belts.

Statistics indicates that 65% of accidents happen close to the home. We never know when we may be encounter an amergency. Often enough, it may be the result of third party error. So, do not assume that it can never happen to you. It is better to be safe than sorry.

The use of the seat belts is the cheapest and the most effective way to reduce road fatalities to car drivers and their passengers. Thus, the seat belt was made mandatory for all drivers and front passengers ini 1973.

Recent findings by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) shoe that 350 lives can be saved every year if wearing rear seat belts were made compulsory and enforced.

According to the survey by Miros, only about 5% of rear seat passengers use their seat belts.

The major cause of passengers fatality is head injuries, which account for more than half of all car-related fatalities. This Usually occurs when occupants are thrown out of the vehicle or when they hit the car seta or dashboard.

An accident is not just a collison between two vehicles; there is a chain reaction that happens inside the vehicle. Bear in mind that you are traveling as fast as the cra and when the collison occurs the car stops, but you continue to travel at the same speed. In such an emergency, your seat belt is your only speed breaker.

During a collison between two vehicles, if seat belts are not used, the back passenger will be thrown against the front seat, while the front passengers will crash into the windshield. Due to the speed at which the passenger is traveling, the internal organs will collide against the skeletal frame, causing various internal injuries.

Umbrellas, heavy tools, bags and even loose change in the car can be hazardous during an accident, as these may fly and hit the passengers.

By retaining the body in the original position during a crash, front seat passengers can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 45%, and the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50%. The seat belt also help the drivers to control the car in the event of a crash, as it holds him in place.
